Crazy Notions

Here I am a Senior and always looking for ways to earn a we bit more money. So we can go south for the winter.
Now this is very scarry thing for me as I figure out our finances.

Twenty years ago we were forced to go bankrupt. The lumber market came to abrupt stop. We were in the wholesale meat business catering to restrants, lumber mills , railroads etc. It had a rippling effect when restraunts went bankrupt. Railroads stop hauling lumber and anything connected to the lumber buisness. We had no more customers. So in turn we had to claim bankrupt. We lost our home, business and car.WARNING NEVER INVEST YOUR HOME IN A BUSINESS. Even though we were in our fifties, we still had our health and energy. We had to start over. Find a job. Save money for a down payment on a house. We paid on it for 12 years. In the little pulp and Paper town of Mackenzie. Would you believe the year we decided to retire the pulp and paper, and logging mills shut down, The forestery were in trouble again. realistate was nil. We moved to Saskatchewan to retire. Our house did not sell for over a year: therefore two payment had to be paid out, one on our house in Mackenzie.plus renting the one we lived in. We were not getting a seniors pentions. Mac retired a year early. Only a pention from Mac's work.
How were we going to live on this income of $1200. per month if Mac did not get a job. Now who wants to hire a 64 yr old man.

God provided, finally we got a renter in out house, and Mac got a job.
Our house sold after a year. We took a large cut. We managed to put a small down payment on our house. Twenty -five more years of morgage.
By now as a senior it expected by that we should have a house paid for.

That is why I am always looking to earn more money.
But I am getting so tired of this physical labour of doing the janitor work at the church.
I want to quite. In order to make payments on this house I will have to work till I am 95yrs.
Now don't feel sorry for me. We have made some bad decisions and mis managed our money. So here we sit wanting to travel south where it is warmer for the winter.
We have decided to sell our house and rent a seniors complex, maybe in May or June.
I visited a lady who lives,in one of the apartments.
As I was walking down the very long hall way. I was thinking. I am not this old. Do I really want to live in this complex of seniors. The ones I saw in the hallways looked ninety years old, I saw a few walkers and wheel chairs at the doors of some these residents. I saw puzzles and games on tables. Meals are served to those who want them and cannot cook for them selves. Would I be happy here? I'm I too young for this. The positive is- Now this may be cheaper to live in then owning a home, with taxes, power, gas, water, repairs and up keep to house. on top of the morgage. The power and gas would be covered under the rent , so that would be cheaper. You pay only a percentage of what your income is. Maybe we are making too much money and can't get into them. That is the next possibility. But if we gave up the janitor work that may do it .
Well back to making more money. All kinds of things come accross on the internet. To earn more money. I generally ignore all of them. Now one has come across, it is a course on how to freelance. That interested me as I like to write. They claim that one can earn more than a doctor lawyer etc. by writng letters for companies and one would get royalties on each letter you wrote. Some have claimed to get thousands of dollars from one letter. So I wrote the company asking for phone numbers of people who have earned this kind of earning . They answered me giving me e mail address of people who have made it. So I wrote each of them a note. My next thought is maybe these are people are on their staff who write back to people like me . So who do you trust?? It does look interesting. We will see. So if I invested money into a course in freelancing I still would be ahead in knowledge, and I could benefit from it in my writing, it may make me a better writer.
My goal is too go south each winter.

I think the seniors complex is a great option for you two! You still have your freedom, you'd make great friends and get taken care of after all these years of caring for others! Good luck with that big decision. :) You two are still so young at heart but it would be nice to be in a place with likeminded people.

As for the freelancing work, it does sound interesting. As you know, you need to be soooo careful with that type of thing. I wouldn't want you to be taken advantage of or dupped out of a lot of money. Look into it!

Thanks again for your phone call today. I appreciate that you cared enough to call. :)
